About Me:
After
receiving my BS in biology and chemistry in 1986 from Antioch
College in Yellow Springs Ohio, I began medical school at the
University of Virginia School of Medicine in 1988. I changed
my mind about a career in conventional medicine during my first year
at UVA and moved to Manhattan and then Los Angeles where I worked in
film production. While in Los Angeles I enrolled in the
master's degree program in Traditional Chinese Medicine at Samra
University. The four year program at Samra included
extensive training in acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, Chinese
diagnosis and treatment theory, yin yang and five element theory,
wen bing and 5 level differentiation of disease, moxabustion and
cupping techniques, tui na massage, Qi Gong, Tai Qi and basic
Chinese language comprehension and use. The program also
included extensive coverage of western pathology, anatomy and
physiology, as well as diagnosis and treatment.
Since
receiving my Masters of Science in Oriental Medicine (MSOM), I have
acquired experience practicing in California, Virginia and
Massachusetts. Although I treat all disorders and diseases, I
have a special interest in treating headaches/migraines, stress and
anxiety, musculo-skeletal pain and infertility. I am currently
licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Virginia to
practice acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine in all of its
forms, and am board certified as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine
(DOM) by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and
Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM).
Additionally I have post-graduate certification from the Council of
Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM)
in clean needle technique, and have been trained in the specialty of
Facial Acupuncture (Acupuncture Face lift), as well as the NADA
(National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) protocol for
substance abuse support and detoxification.
